The present study attempts to investigate the dynamic interlinkages among the Asian, European and US stock markets. Daily closing prices of twelve stock indices relating to the period from 3rd January 1998 to 30th June 2010 and are used in the analysis. Both short and long run relationships are examined through Johansen-Juselius co integration and Vector Error Correction models (VECM) and Impulse Response Function (IRF). The results of the co integration test show strong co integration relationship across international stock prices indices. The results of the Vector Error Correction model reveal that the US and some of European and Asian Stock markets lead the Indian stock market. Finally, the evidence suggests that the impact of the US market on Indian stock returns is much higher than other way round

Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal is popularly known as ashwagandha and also called Indian Ginseng and Winter Cherry. It is an important medicinal plant used in Indian System of Medicines like Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani. The root of this plant has nutritional and medicinal values out of which health foods and herbal tonic are prepared. The root has high demand in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries so that it is essential to increase the root yield. This is new phenomenon to increase root yield as well as improve the biochemical constituents by using plant growth regulators. In the present investigation, the influence of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and triazole compounds viz., triadimefon (TDM) and propiconazole (PCZ) on the photosynthetic pigments and biochemical constituents of ashwagandha. Plants were treated with IBA 2.5 mg/L, TDM 20 mg/L, and PCZ 20 mg/L separately by soil drenching on 50, 90, and 130 days after sowing (DAS). Plants were analyzed randomly on 60, 100, and 140 DAS and it’s parameters like, photosynthetic pigments (total chlorophyll, carotenoids, anthocyanin, and xanthophylls) in leaf and biochemical constituents (starch, protein and amino acids) in leaf, stem and root organs of ashwagandha. It was determined that total chlorophyll, carotenoids, anthocyanin, and xanthophylls, starch, protein and amino acids content were increased in all the treatments. Among the treatments, triazole compounds showed beneficial due to the enhanced the photosynthetic pigments and increased biochemical contents higher level than followed by IBA treatment. From our results, it can be concluded that the triazole shows great significance application at low concentration could be a potential agronomical tool for successfully cultivation of this medicinally important root crops. Triazole compounds enhanced the photo-assimilate to shifting partition from leaves to roots and also alter mineral uptake and plant nutrition, This characters’ can be employed to satisfy needs of enhanced the photosynthetic pigments and biochemical constituents in ashwagandha

Sri Lankan economy would be improved to a great extent with the restoration of peace in the island and the rapid improvement in the tourism industry predicted by ADB lead economist Narhari Rao the Colombo stock market is also performing well, he said. The notable reduction in inflation from 20% to 2% followed by the Central Bank's decision to bring down interest rates, will contribute immensely towards economic development which is the right move. In the 70s, Sri Lanka was more developed than Malaysia and Singapore. Sri Lanka Should concentrate Education, Research development, Export manufactured goods, Health, Transports, Planned and implementation, Agriculture, foreign investment, Small medium scale industries, alternate energy, Construction and security. Singapore is an inspiration to Sri Lanka and other developing countries in terms of economic development, political stability, and good governance. In terms of fiscal and monetary policy, government expenditure to GDP ratio is about 10% with a budget surplus. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka's equivalent is the Monetary Authority of Singapore which is considered among the 10 most sophisticated financial markets. The money supply is endogenous (from within) and exchange rate policy curtails imported inflation. Singapore also has political stability and quality of governance is needed for the economy to grow. Singapore is managing a plural society, rule of law to maintain good governance. As a country with new born peace, Sri Lanka has key lessons to learn from Singapore. Sri Lanka is getting ready for the post war era in earnest. As the expenditure on the war begins to decline, the need to divert attention to development of the north and east ensues. Physically, politically and psychically rebuilding a country after nearly two generations of war is no easy feat Doing it in the middle of a global recession won't be swift or predictable. It will involve that noisily rabble called civil society

Tuber extract of all the plant species used in the study exhibited lysozyme activity confirming the ubiquitous presence of lysozyme in plants. Among the different plants screened for protein content the tuber extract of Solanum tuberosum showed highest buffer soluble protein while tuber extract of Raphanus sativus showed the lowest protein content in sodium acetate buffer (50 Mm; pH 5.0). Tuber extract of Raphanus sativus showed highest lysozyme activity among all the plant species tested in this study and the activity was increased when the tuber was extracted with sodium phosphate buffer (50mM; pH 7.0). The lowest lysozyme was observed with tuber extract of Daucus carota in phosphate buffer (50mM; pH 7.0). The latex of the tropical species Calotropis procera is well known for being a rich source of the lysozyme. Lysozyme of Calotropis procera latex is not thermo labile. It did not lose much of its activity when the latex was incubated at different temperatures for 24 hours. A positive pointer for purification of this enzyme in future. Calotropis procera lysozyme can be was specifically isolated and purified from the whole latex with ammonium sulphate precipitation with 95% saturation. Calotropis procera lysozyme retained its activity even after precipitation with ammonium sulphate and dialysis and could hydrolyse the cell wall of Micrococcus lysodeikticus.Key words: Micrococcus lysodeikticus, Tuberous Plants, Latex, Ammonium sulphate precipitation, Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis M. Field experiments were conducted with sunflower as a test crop during 2010-11 to study the dissipation kinetics and the persistence of pendimethalin and alachlor in sandy clay loam soil and its terminal residues in sunflower. Herbicides were applied at recommended and double the recommended dose along with control and the treatments were replicated thrice in randomized block design. The soil and plant samples collected at periodical intervals for herbicides residue determination using GC equipped with ECD detector. Results shows that the degradation of both the herbicides in soil was faster at higher dose of application than at the lower dose and the concentration decreased with the advancement in crop growth. While pendimethalin persisted in soil for 60 – 90 days, the alachlor persisted in soil for 30 - 45 days depending on the quantity of application. Degradation of both the herbicides in soil followed first order kinetics with the mean half life of 14.6 and 9.8 days respectively for pendimethalin and alachlor. Residues of these herbicides were below 0.001 mg/kg at the time of harvest in soil, sunflower seeds and stalks showed that these herbicides a can be safely used for the control of weeds in sunflower cultivation
